Rivers Governor Fubara Relieves All Commissioners and Public Officers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially dismissed all commissioners and other public office holders in his administration, a move that follows a recent Supreme Court judgment. The decision was announced on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, and takes immediate effect.

The governor used the occasion of a valedictory session with his cabinet, held to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, to thank the outgoing officials for their contributions over the past two years. “I am grateful to members of my cabinet for their dedication and service, which have played a significant role in the development of Rivers State,” the statement read.

Fubara also called on all Nigerians to support the federal government in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. He reassured the people of Rivers State of his continued commitment to serve with renewed energy, while wishing all Nigerians a happy Independence Day.

This development comes after the emergency rule period when the former administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and heads of boards and parastatals previously appointed by Fubara. Since Ibas’ exit on September 18, the status of Fubara’s appointees remained uncertain.

The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on Governor Fubara to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees for screening, alongside the 2025 budget for legislative approval.
